Rhinestone Roots
A queer Black and brown country night to address the gap that exists in the local LGBTQ+ community.
As queer Southerners, our heritage is a vital part of who we are—yet it’s too often overlooked. In Austin, country-themed events rarely center LGBTQ+ communities, and even fewer acknowledge the voices, representation, or lived experiences of Black and brown folks, despite our deep roots in the city and the ongoing impact of displacement.
Curated along with fashion designer SwankKi and performance artist Gothess Jasmine, Rhinestone Roots was held at The Museum of Human Achievement and honored queer Southern people of color with a night full of performances, local vendors, food, music, and fashion—bringing our culture and stories to the forefront.
